My Sleep Philosophy

A good and sound sleep will ensure that a child will have a solid foundation for a proper mind and body development. The method I was trained in was created out of the strong belief that healthy sleep habits make for healthy children. A well-rested child is curious, energetic, happy, playful, and eager to learn. Isn't that what you want for your little ones?
I always believe that a child should learn the independence of sleeping, it is a life skill that they will have to learn on their own, but the good news is – YOU can help with the process! I place great importance on accommodating different parenting styles, and the bottom line is that you, need to be comfortable with your new sleep plan in order for it to work for your child.
Parents place a great deal of trust in me when they come to me for help, and I want you to know that I take this responsibility very seriously.

Does this involve the Crying-It-Out method?
Please understand that I will never ask you to leave your child to cry alone, nor will I ask you to ignore their cries. The method that I've been trained in is so effective that it lets you develop a plan that you feel comfortable with, based on what you know about your child.
Crying is your child's way of protesting change, and you can expect that making changes to their sleep habits will result in some protest. That's why I'm always sure to tell parents that my program will most likely involve at least some amount of protest on the child's part.

If you have any questions at all about my philosophy or methods, please don't hesitate to ask!

Start enjoying your children, your partner and return to work feeling refreshed. It´s easier and faster than you think. It IS possible to be a parent and sleep well too!

Kryse Broussard, BSc (Nursing)

Certified Sleep Sense Consultant

Hi, I'm Kryse - and I am a certified infant and child sleep consultant. After 15 years of working with adults and children as a registered nurse in the specialty areas of intensive care, trauma, ER, pediatric and labor & delivery, I decided to change my focus to sleep science and sleep management. I have always been an advocate for healthy living and I encourage families to inspire and support each other to reach their optimum wellness goals. Teaching parents and their children the benefits of healthy sleep and giving them the skills to achieving better sleep is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.

My journey to becoming a sleep consultant started just shortly after the birth of my son. Although having taught the importance of sleep to my patients over the years, I found myself being the student all over again and also this time I was a first time mom. I thought I was doing everything right. From the first day we brought our son home he was sleeping in his own room, in his own crib. Everything was going smoothly, as great as it could be with a newborn in the home. That meant sleeping, waking, and feeding every two hours. For the first 2 months I felt like I had it under control. But then the third month came and my baby was now waking every hour, day and night, and suddenly was refusing to be put down in his crib. I couldn't understand what was going wrong, and then one night after searching the web for answers, I came across a blog about the "4 Month Sleep Regression" from Dana and her Sleep Sense Book. A light bulb went off! It all finally made sense. This was exactly what my baby and I were going through. It was as if Dana was speaking directly to me through my phone screen. I told my husband I needed to buy this book and start the sleep training immediately.

After 2 days into the training, my baby was sleeping four hours straight. I felt informed, encouraged and empowered. On the third night my son slept through the night. The foundation for healthy sleep we built at that time has helped my son sleep well ever since. Now he reaches each milestone with ease and has not had a major regression since. To this day people are surprised at how great of a sleeper he is. They comment all the time about how happy and alert he is, and my response to that is, "that's the look of a baby who is sleep trained."

Knowing how grateful I was to have someone provide me with sleep guidance and support, when all the books, internet articles and advice left me confused, was the most powerful feeling. And better yet was the feeling of hope and relief I had the first night we all slept through the night.

I am motivated and inspired to help all families reach their sleep goals, through education, guidance, and support. Whether you choose an in-home or phone consult, I will review your child's current sleep habits with you, provide a detailed sleep plan that compliments your parenting style and philosophy, and offer follow-up support for your questions and concerns along the way.

I look forward to meeting you and helping your little one on his/her journey to a more rested, happy, and healthier sleep.

Q: How long will it take?

A: My sleep plans are customized and are determined by the age of the child. Newborn sleep plans are generally 1 week long to help set the stage for establishing healthy sleep habits and routines from day one. Infant sleep plans are 2 weeks long since it takes time to implement a more formal sleep training program and keeping consistent. But most parents will see an improvement in their child's sleep habits after just 2-3 days into the program. Toddlers and older children tend to take a bit longer since their sleep habits are more engrained over time thus requiring up to 3-4 weeks.

Q: Will my baby be left to "cry it out?"

A: No. Crying is your child's way of protesting change, and you can expect that making changes to their sleep habits will result in some protest. However, my approach allows for parents to stay with their child as long as they would like during the training process. At no time would I ask for you to leave your child to "cry it out" if that is not something that feels right for you. That is the beauty of this sleep program, we can develop a sleep plan that you are comfortable with and goes along with your parenting styles.

Q: Is Sleep training safe?

A: Yes, sleep training is safe. There are numerous studies that showed sleep training to be both effective and safe. Sleep itself is glorious, rejuvenating, and beneficial to you, your baby, and your entire family. Focusing on your child's sleep habits is something you can feel good about, and a commitment that will pay off exponentially.

Q: When should I start sleep training my child?

A: You can start from day 1! My newborn sleep packages are a great way to get yourself and your baby familiar with bedtime routines and a feeding/napping schedule. I also offer a prenatal package if you would like to get a head start on healthy sleep hygiene like how to set up a nursery for great sleep safe sleep guidelines, and what to expect when bringing home your new baby for the first time.

Q: Do you work with children who have disabiltiies or other health problems?

A: Yes. During our discovery call I will learn more about your child and your unique family. We can discuss any disabilities or health concerns, and we can decide together if moving forward makes sense and is beneficial for you.

Q: I am not located in Texas, can I still use your services?

A: Absolutely! The great thing about technology nowadays, it's much easier to connect! Most of my consultations are through emails and over the phone/Skype/FaceTime. My consultations are in English, and I accept international PayPal payments.

Q: Are your services guaranteed?

A: In short, yes. The key to success when it comes to sleep training is consistency. My job, and why my approach is so successful, is to ensure that you are given all the knowledge and the skills to remain consistent and to follow the plan as laid out for you. I will be there to answer any questions or concerns you may have along the way and we can troubleshoot together any bumps in the road that you may have along the way. I also provide follow-up support and guidance to keep you re-assured and confident to reach success with your sleep goals for your family.

I've also included some FAQs about the Sleep Sense program. Feel free to reach out to me if you have questions about the philosophy behind the Sleep Sense method:

Q: Where did this program originate from?

A: The Sleep Sense program was created by Dana Obleman, USA, as a direct result of her extensive research. I am certified to use her methods to teach parents and children to be independent sleepers, which has been proven to be successful with over 30,000 clients in the past 15 years.

Q: What's so great about the technique and how will it benefit my child

A: The program stresses on the importance of letting children learn how to soothe themselves into deep, restful sleep. It teaches your child to be independent and not rely on their parents or props (ex. rocking to sleep, bottle, pacifier, nursing) to help them sleep. Healthy sleep habits make for healthy children, and uninterrupted sleep can improve a child's immune system, mood, and brain development.
